Dignity for All Students (DASA)
Dignity for All Students and Bullying Prevention
New York State’s Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) seeks to provide the State’s students with a safe and supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying on school property, a school bus, and/or at a school function. The law states that no student shall be subjected to discrimination, harassment, or bullying (including cyberbullying) by employees or students on school property, or off school property at a school function, electronically, and when the act may create a risk of substantial disruption at school.
DASA protects all students. DASA explicitly mandates the reporting of all incidents of harassment, bullying, and/or discrimination based on, but not limited to, a person’s race, color, weight, nationality, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender (which includes gender identity and/or expression), or sex.
DASA defines harassment and bullying as the creation of a hostile environment by conduct or by threats, intimidation, or abuse, including cyberbullying. This includes threats, intimidation, and abuse that occur verbally, non-verbally, or in any form of electronic communication.
If you believe that a student has been the target of harassment, bullying--including cyberbullying--or discrimination, please submit a DASA Complaint Form to report all allegations.
You may use the link to complete this form online, and it will automatically be directed to the Dignity Act Coordinator. Or, you can print a copy of the form and return it to the school office. A school administrator will review and respond to each incident accordingly.
All complaints will be treated confidentially. Anonymous reports may limit the school’s ability to gather sufficient information necessary to respond to the complaint.
False complaints are against the law and against school policy.
Any reports made during the summer months will be addressed as the school administrator is available.
Complaints or concerns that may not constitute DASA violations may be reported directly to each building’s principal, other administrators, nurses, or counselors.
