David Schrader is The Commencement Speaker for The Class of 2019!
David Schrader graduated from Falconer Central School in 1989. He is a retired Lieutenant Colonel who served for 23 years in the United States Air Force.
He entered the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at Syracuse University where he earned a degree in Political Science and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1993. After completion of Undergraduate Missile Training at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California in 1994, he was assigned to the 90th Missile Wing at F. E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming as a nuclear missile combat crew member. In 1998 he was assigned to the 50th Space Wing at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado as a satellite vehicle operator. David was selected for Air Mobility Command’s Phoenix Hawk leadership program and served as an aeronautical route planner in the Tanker Airlift Control Center and in the Combat Operations Division at Headquarters, Air Mobility Command at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois from 2001 to 2003. He was assigned to United States Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska from 2004 to 2007 as a Nuclear Strike Advisor and Emergency Actions Officer. He went on to serve as the Chief, Missile Operations at Headquarters, 20th Air Force at F.E Warren Air Force Base until David’s next series of assignments were at the 91st Missile Wing at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, serving there until 2014.
In addition, He was the Operations Officer for the 91st Operations Support Squadron where he helped lead the unit in earning the 2010 Lowell F. McAdoo Trophy for the best Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Operational Support Squadron in the United States Air Force. Also during his time in the 91st Operations Support Squadron, he served as Task Force Commander for a Glory Trip mission which successfully test launched a Minuteman III ICBM from Vandenberg Air Force Base. He served as the 91st Missile Wing Chief of Safety and had the honor and privilege of commanding the 741st Missile Squadron. He followed his command tour as the Deputy Commander of the 91st Operations Group. David’s last assignment in the Air Force was as Commander, Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Detachment 520 at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He retired from the Air Force in 2016. During his time in the Air Force, he earned a MBA degree from Regis University in Denver, Colorado and a Master of Military Operational Art and Science degree from Air University’s Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama.
Today, David is a government civilian assigned as a Critical Infrastructure Analyst and a subject matter expert in Nuclear Operations for the United States Air Force on the United States Strategic Command headquarters staff at Offutt Air Force Base. He is also an adjunct faculty member at Creighton University’s Heider School of Business.
David lives in Omaha, Nebraska with his wife, the former Stephanie Herceg of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and their two children, Maximilian and Gianna.
