Welcome Algebra Students!
Algebra is frequently considered the gatekeeper subject. It is the first in a series of higher-level math classes that is necessary to succeed in college and in life. It is used by many professionals ranging from electricians to architects to computer scientists. This class will help you make the transition from concrete arithmetic to the symbolic language of algebra. During this course you will also develop abstract reasoning skills which are crucial to excel in math and science.
This year we will follow the Emathinstruction curriculum. If you ever miss a day or lose your homework or notes you can print off another copy and watch that days lesson on this website: https://emathinstruction.com/common-core-algebra-i/
. I will also be sending out weekly newsletters so you know exactly what lesson we did each day.
If you ever need extra help and can not stay after school more resources can be found here: http://www.jmap.org/
. Resources are organized by topic and include extra practice problems (with answers), lessons and videos.
Lastly, we will be using the TI-83 Plus graphing calculator on a weekly basis. We do have calculators for in class use only, however it is encouraged that you buy one as well for study hall work and to take home for homework. If you cannot purchase one, you can download a free version to use on your computer here: https://sites.google.com/site/ti83interactivecalculator/Home
