The Robert A. and Dorothy Stender Sweet Physics Scholarship is intended for full-time students majoring in physics. We have both B.S. and B.A. programs. Our 3/2 program leads to a physics degree from Buffalo State and an engineering degree from SUNY at Buffalo or SUNY at Binghamton. Students taking the B.A. frequently continue on to a Master’s degree in science education and a career teaching in high-school. I would be grateful if you would make the appropriate students aware of this scholarship and the possible other scholarships discussed below.
The Dorothy Sweet Physics Scholarship is $4,000 per year for four years and up to three scholarships can be awarded each year. In order to enter Buffalo State as a physics major the student should have taken pre-calculus in high school. Minimum qualifications are standardized test scores of 1100 on the SAT (Critical Reading and Math) or 24 on the ACT test and that the student have a high-school percentile of 90% or higher ranking.
Students who qualify for the Dorothy Sweet Physics Scholarship may also qualify for the All College Honors Program at Buffalo State, making them eligible for an additional $2,500 per year. Students who have 1270 (EBW+Math) on the SAT or higher, or a minimum ACT of 27, can qualify for the Presidential Scholarship ($2,500), which is one of the college’s merit-based scholarships.
