Career Exploration Opportunities
Students at Falconer Middle School complete many career exploration activities throughout grades 6, 7, and 8. Career exploration curriculum exists in several different settings including Family Consumer Science (Home Ec.) classes, Middle School Success class, Junior Achievement programs and field trips, Intro to Computer Applications class, classroom sessions taught by me, and individual meetings with me in the Guidance Office.
I introduce all students to our Choices Career Program beginning in the spring semester of grade 6. This computer program is a web-based program that is utilized throughout all of the Middle/High School years. The program is able to be accessed at home at www.bridges.com (see link below). I issue student id numbers and passwords in 6th grade, and we focus mainly on exploring different careers in the Middle School years. High School Guidance counselors Mr. Minton and Mrs. Duliba continue using the program to create resumes and student portfolios, explore colleges, and identify appropriate college programs.
Please encourage your middle school children to access this program at home. There are many fun, interactive activities for them to do. It is computer time well spent!
